Special Meeting-January 13, 2010

The Board of Directors of the Jefferson-Scranton Community School District met in special session on January 13, 2010 at the Jefferson Elementary School. President Sam Harding called the meeting to order at 5:31 p.m. Also present were Directors Teresa Hagen, Kevin Neal and Celli Whipple; Superintendent Tim Christensen, Secretary Brenda Muir as well as administrators and social studies staff members. Director Holden was absent.

The president read the goals and mission statement of the district.

Motion was made by Whipple, seconded by Hagen to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried 4-0.

Data was presented including ITBS, ITED and ACT scores. The emphasis on other academic areas seems to have affected social studies scores. Teachers explained what is taught at each grade level. Teaching skills as well as content, common vocabulary, realignment of curriculum and more collaboration amongst teachers were all mentioned as ways to improve proficiencies and strengthen the program.

The president declared the meeting adjourned at 7:07 p.m.
