Motion was made by Hagen, seconded by Whipple to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried 5-0.
Potential budget shortfalls for the 2010-11 and the 2011-12 school years were presented. Superintendent Christensen has recommended over $600,000 in cuts for fiscal year 2010-11 to balance the budget and remain within the legal spending authority. A list of potential cuts along with dollar amounts and implications were discussed. Comments were heard from the audience about the music department, nurses and School Within A School. Approximately 42% of the savings realized will be through attrition – not replacing those retiring. At that February 17, 2010 meeting the actual cuts will be acted on so that the certified budget process can move forward and deadlines can be met.
